about US

At the Science of Art we are conservators: we give great importance to the preservation of objects in our care

and we know the chemistry of the materials we use. We are also artists, bringing the crafts of color-mixing, painting,

and sculpture to go where the original artist went, to recreate what has been lost or damaged.

Combining conservation with craft is the challenge of our work. It is the blending of science and art.

We restore all types of ceramic objects, antiques and collectibles including porcelain, china, stoneware

and terracotta. We can also repair plaster, some wood and stone sculpture, plastic and resin-based items. While we can rebond broken glass items,

glass cannot be restored to its original state. We are experts in the repair of Hummel and Lladro figurines. We have also restored

Roseville, Wedgwood, Hull, Dresden, Limoge and Delft. We also perform minor restoration on oil and acrylic paintings.

We clean paintings and repair tears, punctures and areas of paint loss.

We work on a wide variety of objects ranging from expensive antiques to sentimental family treasures.

Our goal is to provide high-quality, seamless restoration for every job, regardless of the value of the item. We believe in

preserving the integrity of the objects in our care and avoid using any techniques that could compromise that integrity.

Good restoration means keeping the artist’s original intent in the forefront, and never giving an object any more treatment than is necessary.

The cost of restoration is determined strictly on the extent of the damage and the work that is necessary to complete the repair.

While it is impossible to put a price on sentiment, please be aware that the cost of a professional restoration

can far exceed the actual monetary value of the piece. Only you, the client, can justify if the piece warrants the investment.

The Science of Art Restoration was formed by Debra Broz in 2006. Debra previously worked for Broken Treasure Restoration Studio

as an apprentice under Charles Foster, who helped her perfect her technique with his 30-plus years of experience as a restorer.

Her extensive art training, attention to detail and interest in problem-solving piqued her interest in restoration. She is

forever intrigued and fascinated with the alliance between art and science.
